SHAWNEE, Kan. – County officials were scheduled to meet Wednesday night to discuss a proposal that would set into stage a controlled deer hunt at Shawnee Mission Park.
Under the plan,
proposed last week by the Johnson County Parks and Recreation District, trained law enforcement officers from various metro agencies would hunt white tail deer in the park to control a blossoming population.
The
meat would be donated to local charities and county officials hope the move would make the park more people-friendly.
Wednesday’s meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Lenexa National Guard Armory, 18200 W. 87th Street Parkway. No final decision is expected, but the parks district hopes to get a better feel for the idea and to get public input.
What are your thoughts on the idea to hold a controlled hunt in Shawnee Mission Park?
