KANSAS CITY, Mo. – What was supposed to be a good deed for the environment, ended in a medical emergency for one man.
James Jones was riding the Liberty Express Bus into downtown Kansas City, Mo., Tuesday afternoon when he began to suffer a stroke.
Passengers on the bus noticed the 65-year-old Jones began slurring his words.
They alerted the bus driver, who stopped the bus and called for help.
Jones was rushed to the Saint Luke’s hospital in Kansas City where he was given a series of drugs to help stop the stroke.
He said he is thankful and fortunate for everyone’s heroic actions.
"I was kinda in the process of becoming a vegetable. I think the people realized on the bus knew what was going on and knew something wasn't right," said Jones.
Doctors say his stroke was a result of a blood clot in his heart.
This is not the first time something like this has happened to Jones on the same bus.
Back in 2007, Jones suddenly passed out on the bus.
Passengers again alerted the bus driver, who called paramedics.
They used an Automatic Heart Defibrillator to revive Jones who had been suffering from a heart problem.
Jones, who is a worker in Kansas City’s Public Works Division, said he takes the bus to help prevent polluting the environment even more.
As a way of thanking the passengers who helped with his latest medical bout, he said he is buying everyone who takes the bus, a doughnut.
