OLATHE, Kan. – A Shawnee man pleaded guilty Tuesday in the death of a University of Kansas student who was just months from getting his MBA.
Steven Kyle Cummins' blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit when he struck and killed a 23-year-old graduate student from France in February.
It happened on Shawnee Mission Parkway over Interstate 35 in the Kansas City suburb of Merriam, Kan.
According to police, the victim was helping push a friend’s stalled car along Shawnee Mission Parkway when they were struck from behind by Cummins’ Dodge Dakota truck.
The student was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man from that car was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Cummins will be sentenced in August.
