Man Honored for Burning Car Rescue

Last Update: 3/26 5:46 pm
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Kansas City man is honored by Medal of Honor winners for helping rescue a man from a burning car nearly six years ago.

Fifty-three-year-old federal worker David Bryan received the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation's Above & Beyond Citizen Honors on Wednesday at Arlington National Cemetery.

The award is meant to single out acts of courage by ordinary people.

Bryan helped in the rescue of Michael Nolte on Interstate 70 near Higginsville after a Missouri State Highway Patrol car was struck by a pickup truck on May 22, 2003.

Trooper Michael Newton had stopped Nolte for a traffic violation and was writing him a ticket when the truck crashed into the patrol car. Newton died, and Nolte was seriously injured.
