Man Found Dead with Military Ordnance Nearby

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A 46-year-old man was found dead inside a house near the University of Kansas Hospital.

Police were called to a house in the 4400 block of Eaton around 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 3 on a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Douglas M. McCrary dead with an apparent gun shot wound.

As the investigation continued, officers found some type of military ordnance inside the house. Police cordoned off the house, and called the KCK Police Department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit to collect the devices for proper disposal.

Authorities asked neighbors to stay in their homes as a precaution during the investigation.

The cause of death has been ruled a suicide. The victim’s family has been notified.
