KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Police say a surveillance tape from a business near where a man was found beaten and hit by a car in downtown Kansas City is revealing new clues.

Police say 47-year-old Dwayne E. Smith of Kansas City, Mo., was hit by another man and knocked to the ground around 10 p.m. Wednesday night near 10th and Grand Boulevard.

Moments later, the tape shows a driver flashing the head lights to another on coming car, but it was too late.

Police say as soon as the crash happened, the driver called 911 to report the incident.

Smith was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Police believe a series of people walking down the street, pushing a baby stroller, may be connected to the beating. But what role they played, investigators admit, they are not sure.

There are no suspects in custody and detectives ask anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
