INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – An anonymous letter has helped end a suspected burglary ring in Independence, with one of the alleged conspirators still being sought by police.

Independence Police say a letter sent to one of the victims claimed 20-year-old Joseph Carroll was in possession of a lawnmower owned by the victim.

Carroll, of Independence, has been questioned in the case and a warrant has been issued for his arrest, but he was not in custody Friday morning.

Two other men, 37-year-old William Countryman and 20-year-old Cody Barnard, have already been charged and have made their first court appearances.

Countryman, of Grain Valley, is charged with second degree burglary and one count of theft. Barnard, of Blue Springs, is charged with three counts each of second degree burglar and theft.

A fourth suspect was expected to be charged, possibly next week.

All four are accused of several burglaries in the area of Noland Road and Fair Street.

If you know anything about Carroll’s whereabouts or have any information about the burglaries, call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
