KANSAS CITY, Mo.- If you're looking for a job, the Kansas City metro is the place to be according to employment website
CareerBuilder.com. The claim comes as a surprise for those looking for a job.
A study released by CareerBuilder.com lists Kansas City as the top metro area for job seekers because the area had the most job postings listed between January 2009 and October 2009.
The Kansas City area beat out Washington D.C., Baltimore, Md., the Dallas-Ft. Worth, Tx. area, and Philidelphia, Pa. which rounded out the top five.
Website officials say it wasn't just the number of job postings, but the variety of industries and the economic diversity in those job postings that earned Kansas City the spot. Industries like aviation, transportation, and energy are said to be strong in town.
It's news to people searching for a job who say the road from unemployement has been a rough one. Peter Gibson was laid off from American Airlines four years ago and has had trouble finding a job in his industry of avionics, or aviation electronics. He's considering relocating to find employment.
"I want to stay in Kansas City, but the jobs just aren't here," Gibson said.
Gibson attended a career fair for aviation company AAR. Company officials say they have 100 openings in the aviation industry. Those jobs, though, are in Oklahomoa City.
For workers like Gibson, many say they are running out of options.
