LAWRENCE, Kan. – The chancellor at the University of Kansas issued a statement Friday denying a review of Athletic Director Lew Perkins.
“The notion that the university is conducting a review of Lew Perkins is false and completely unfounded,” Bernadette Gray-Little said in the statement, which was
posted on the university’s Web site. “I am confident in the athletics director and his management team’s ability to administer our athletics program in the highly capable and professional manner for which they are known.”
On Thursday,
reports from NBC News indicated the university may have been looking into Perkins' alleged undermining of head football coach Mark Mangino.
The university is
investigating allegations that Head Coach Mark Mangino verbally abused several players and physically struck at least one player.
“The review of the football program is consistent with the process outlined in Coach Mark Mangino’s contract,” Gray-Little said. “I encourage everyone to wait until this process is completed before drawing any conclusions.”
