KANSAS CITY, Kan.---The Great Wolf Lodge is best known for it’s giant water slides and fountains where guests can splash around.
But as this tourist fun spot gears up for the holiday travel season, it’s also touting its status as a green hotel.
Great Wolf General Manager Keith Moses and his staff work hard to achieve and maintain that status.
It marks a trend in an industry trying to become more environmentally conscious.
Greenseal.org now lists 48 hotels in 16 states that carry its prestigious
Green Seal of Certification.
The Great Wolf is the
first national chain to get the award for all its properties.
Some of Great Wolf's green practices include recycling water in the water park, providing guests lots of opportunities to recycle, using energy-efficient bulbs and green purchasing.
"Sustainable is such a big word. We like to think of it as sustainable fun," says Moses.
Other Kansas City hotels have green certification from an industry trade group.
The Q Hotel and Spa in Westport, the Marriott in downtown Kansas City and the Hyatt Regency at Crown Center appear on the
American Hotels and Lodging Association’s green hotels list.
The Green Seal is more prestigious because there are more requirements to meet.
