KANSAS CITY, Mo. – You can take the Chiefs fans out of the city, but you can’t take their love of the Kansas City Chiefs out of these fans.
Three buddies who grew up in Olathe have started an online petition to get Chiefs Running Back Larry Johnson booted.
The three have each moved away from Kansas City, but claim they are still diehard Chiefs fans. Their open letter to Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli outlines their beef. They call on Pioli to deactivate Johnson from the team. More importantly, they don’t want Johnson to hold the record of the Chiefs all-time leading rusher.
They say Johnson isn’t worthy of having his name mixed with other Chiefs Hall of Famers, such as Bobby Bell, Lenny Dawson, Priest Holmes and Derrick Thomas.
Johnson currently needs just 80 more yards to surpass the record set by Holmes.
Johnson will miss Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars after being suspended for controversial comments posted on his Twitter account.
As of Saturday morning, more than 31,100 people had signed the petition.
