OLATHE, Kan. - Schools in Johnson County have been recognized by the Johnson County Health Department for their contribution to the county’s H1N1 vaccination campaign.

Of the total 109,221 H1N1 doses administered in Johnson County, 42.6 percent were given through the school system. The vaccinations covered a large percentage of 5 to 18-year-old children, one of the most at-risk populations for H1N1 illness.

With the flu season peaking in February, health officials say it’s not too late to get your vaccination.

"It's important to remain vigilant and for those who aren't immunized to get the vaccine,” says Dr. Jason Eberhart-Phillips of the Kansas State Health Office. “It's available abundantly, it works - and it's safe."
