KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes are teaming up to deliver holiday cards to service members and their families, many of whom will be far, far from home this holiday season.
The “Holiday Mail for Heroes” project provides Americans with the opportunity to send holiday greetings and “thank you notes” to service members and veterans.
Between now and Dec. 7, everyone is invited to send a “touch of home” through cards that contain messages of cheer and appreciation.
The Red Cross and Pitney Bowes will screen cards for possible hazardous materials, sort and package the cards, and deliver them to military bases and hospitals, as well as veteran’s homes. Pitney Bowes is providing screening, packaging, and shipping at no charge. Hundreds of Red Cross volunteers will sort and box cards for delivery to servicemen and women, veterans and family members late this month and in December.
Members of the public are invited to stop by and sign a holiday greeting at the Wyandotte County Veteran’s Day Commemoration on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the National Guard Armory, at 19th and Ridge. Cards may also be dropped off at the Red Cross chapter until Dec. 6, or holiday cards can be mailed to: “Holiday Mail for Heroes”, P.O. Box 5456, Capitol Heights, Md. 20791-5456.
