KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Hundreds of high school students didn't go to class Monday and their teachers didn't have a problem with it.
Students at Cristo Rey High School went on a "Service Blitz".
They spread out across the metro to provide 600 hours of community service in one day.
The group worked at Harvesters and learned helping others is also about helping themselves.
"I’m walkin away with the knowledge that I can give responsibility and I can get teamwork and that I'm proud of what I’m doing right now because I'm helping someone out there that needs it,” student Stephany Estrada Jr. said.
Cristo Rey High School is funded in part by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The curriculum requires students perform community service throughout the year.
