KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Two people are found dead inside a Kansas City, Kansas home. Fire officials say the deaths appear to be heat related.

“It appears at this time that they may have succumbed to the heat,” says Assistant Fire Chief Craig Duke.

KCK police and fire found a 75-year-old man and 59-year-old woman inside a home on the 2500 hundred block of Steward Avenue around 9:30 Tuesday morning.

The man was disabled and dependent on oxygen. A medical delivery person discovered the bodies.

"It felt approximately about 110 degrees inside that residence at least,” says Duke.

Duke says the home had no air conditioning. There were a few fans on however all the windows were closed.

Neighbors believe the man and the woman could be brother and sister. They weren't aware the home wasn't air conditioned.

“I was wondering why they kept their door open all night. But I mean they didn't bother anybody. They would just sit in their house all day with their door wide open,” says LeTonia Griffin who lives across the street.

Duke says an autopsy will need to be performed to determine the exact cause of death. He is not sure how long they had been in the home.

So far this year the KCK Fire Department has responded to 10 heat related calls in the past week.

If you do not have air conditioning, there are several area cooling centers available for you to cool off. You could also qualify for a free air conditioner with Project ElderCool.
