KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Lower paper costs in Asia have prompted Hallmark Cards Inc. to shift work overseas.
The Kansas City based company says it will temporarily shift production of boxed cards for its DaySpring Card subsidiary to Asia because of lower paper costs there.
The move will temporarily reduce the workload for about 55 employees at its Topeka Production Center, which has been producing DaySpring Cards for the past several months.
The change will start in March and continue through September or October.
Hallmarks Topeka Production Center has 670 full-time employees.
The affected employees remain employed and have the options to take other jobs in the Topeka plant, or in other Hallmark plants, work with pay on community projects or take paid or voluntary time off.
The decision affects only DaySpring boxed cards. Other Hallmark cards and envelopes will continue to be produced in Topeka.
