Grand Jury Finds Police Officer Not at Fault in Shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A grand jury found no wrongdoing by a Kansas City Police Officer who shot and killed a man last year in East Kansas City.

The shooting occcured in May 2008 in the 2600 block of Jackson Avenue after a passenger fled a stolen car and pointed a gun at a police officer.

It began when officers pulled over the stolen car in the 1700 block of Van Brunt Boulevard.

The driver sped away, but officers did not pursue the car.

A police helicopter followed the car as it ran stop signs and weaved through traffic, police said.

The passenger jumped out of the car several blocks after the chase began.

He managed to run into the backyard of a house and climbed over a fence, police said at the time.

The fleeing man confronted a tactical unit officer and pointed a gun at the officer.

The officer shot and killed the man.

The dead man was identified as 26-year-old Terry Davis of Kansas City.
