Former Kansas Prosecutor Sentenced for Extortion

WICHITA, Kan. - The former Cherokee, Kan., County Attorney has been sentenced to more than a year in federal prison for receiving money and favors from a Galena, Kan., Gentlemen's Club.

Michael Goodrich, 48, of Baxter Springs, Kan., pleaded guilty in June to one count of extortion. As part of his plea, he admitted that while serving as Cherokee County Attorney he extorted the owner and employees of Sensations Gentlemen's Club. As a result, he received money and favorable treatment from the owner and employees.

During a period between Jan. 21, 2005 and Sept. 2007, Goodrich accepted favorable treatment at the club and provided favorable treatment for employees by dismissing traffic tickets and other costs.
