CLAYCOMO, Mo. - The Ford Plant in Claycomo celebrated a huge milestone.
On Tuesday, Ford union workers and administrators at the plant applauded as the
100,000th Ford Escape Hybrid rolled off the assembly line.
The Ford Escape is the world's first hybrid SUV and Ford officials say it's the most fuel-efficient hybrid SUV with 34 miles per gallon in city driving.
Ford is positioning itself as the "Green" company with cars operating simultaneously on electricity and gas.
The 2010 Ford Fusion will be a hybrid; it goes on sale at dealerships in two weeks.
Plant managers are hoping the green cars will convince consumers to start buying cars again.
