EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo.The pain is fresh and the emotions raw, as tears roll down cheeks, reflecting the flickering candlelight.  Someone softly sings “In the Arms of an Angel.”  Family and friends stand huddled together in the cool night air wondering why?

Thomas Sullivan is Carol Thomas' boyfriend:  “She'd do anything for anybody.  She'd give you the shirt off her back.  I can't believe this escalated to this.”

One thing that is clear, if not overwhelming – the speed of which this all transpired.  Reports that Carol was beaten and abducted by three people in a red Pontiac came in Wednesday night around 9:30pm.  A burned out Pontiac is found near Lawson, Missouri around 2:00am Thursday.  Police arrest the suspects in Lawson by mid morning.  And by Noon Thursday, Carol’s body is found in a wooded area of Ray County.  All within some 15 hours.  Police credit that speed to a farmer's tip.

“There's no way we would have found that body this quickly, if it hadn't been for an alert farmer paying attention to what was going on,” explains Lt. Clint Reno of the Excelsior Springs Police Department.

With barely enough time for any of this to sink in, those who affectionately called Carol Thomas “Cat" share in their grief together, remembering the free spirit taken too soon.

“She had a laugh that went right through you,” remembers Bari Allen, Thomas' Step-Father.  “She was just a joy to be around.”

“I love her.  I'm gonna miss her,” says Sullivan, wiping away tears.  “I hope the people that done this get what they deserve.”
