Family Begins Saying Goodbye To Fallen Marine

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Friends and family of a metro marine who died while on duty in Afghanistan have begun saying their goodbyes.

Visitation services for Lance Cpl. Nicholas Hand. 20, were scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mount Moriah Teerace Park Funeral Home at 801 N.W. 108th St. in Kansas City, Mo.

Hand died on Nov. 22 in the Helmand province.

He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

The Oak Park High School graduate enlisted when he was 17 and completed his first tour of duty in Iraq just in time to spend the Holidays with his family last year. He then re-enlisted and was deployed to Afghanistan back on Oct. 17

His remains returned to the United States Tuesday, Nov. 24.

The funeral for Hand is scheduled for noon Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 422 Chestnut Street, Leavenworth, Kan.

He will be laid to rest inside the Leavenworth National Cemetery following the funeral.
