Early Morning Fire Causes $10,000 in Damage

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Firefighters were called to Smuggler's Inn near Front Street and I-435 Friday morning.

Crews a driver on the highway saw the blaze around 5:45 a.m. and called it in.

Seven companies and fifty firefighters were on the scene.  Crews were able to get the fire under control in less than a half an hour.

Officials say the roof of the restaurant suffered moderate damage.  The inside of the building had some minor smoke and water damage.

Fire officials say the restaurant won't reopen for at least a week.  The damage is estimated at $10,000.

The assistant chief says an electrical problem is to blame. 

No one was injured in the blaze.
