KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Metro drivers were being forced Saturday to help push other drivers out of snowdrifts to keep stranded cars from blocking the side streets as metro street crews battle the 2009 holiday blizzard.

"Actually that's the second one we've pushed out of the way, so we're getting them, one by one, out of the stoplight. " said Darren Keener, who was helping push cars at 85th terrace and State Line in Leawood.

Then Keener had to try to get out himself.

The problem at some intersections is when snow is cleared off major streets like State Line Road.

It then piles up and blocks the side street openings, creating work for good Samaritans

A man who would only give his name as "Jim" told us why he was helping so many people.

"It's worth it,” he said. “I'd hate for them to be stranded out here. I'd hate to be stranded myself."

We found signs of a struggle as someone used the old cardboard trick to get out.

In some areas it's hard to tell the difference between being in a yard, and being in the street.

Some side streets are snow packed, and hadn’t been plowed at all as of Saturday afternoon.

That was the case in Kansas City on 87th Street near Wornall.

"I'm getting my full share of winter snow and everything," said Keener.

The Christmas blizzard of 2009 will leave many memories.

But first it has to end.
