OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Police say they have identified and located the driver of a hit and run on Monday in Overland Park.
At around 6 p.m. Monday, Overland Park police were dispatched to a hit and run accident at 122nd and Tomahawk Creek Parkway.
According to two witnesses a black newer model GMC Suburban was being driven by a young white male. The GMC Suburban was traveling west on 122nd Street and made a left turn on to southbound Tomahawk Creek Parkway. A Black GMC Yukon was traveling south on Tomahawk Creek Parkway. The GMC Suburban struck the rear driver's side of the GMC Yukon causing the Yukon to veer to its left. The GMC Yukon crossed the center grass median and struck a tan Lexus traveling north, according to Overland Park police spokesman Jim Weaver.
The driver of the GMC Suburban continued to travel south on Tomahawk Creek Parkway towards Nall Avenue. The drivers of the GMC Yukon and the Lexus were transported to a local hospital for injuries.
The driver of the GMC Yukon was released from the hospital, however, the driver of the Lexus remains in the hospital in critical condition.
Weaver said Tuesday afternoon, officers were able to locate the driver of the hit and run along with the vehicle, the GMC Suburban. He is a 17 year old juvenile and a resident of Leawood, Kan. The GMC Suburban was found in Overland Park.
According to Weaver, charges have been filed against him yet. The investigation continues.
