KANSAS CITY, Mo. - More than 500 families will enjoy Christmas this year thanks to the efforts of volunteers with the Don Bosco Centers' Holiday Friends program.
The program brings together people who want to help those who need assistance at Christmas.
It's designed for individuals and families that live at or below the federal poverty guidelines, according to a news release from the Don Bosco Centers.
Because of the economic downturn, more families applied for help this season.
The program was able to adopt every family who needed help, according to the release.
Radio station Star 102.1 and its Adopt-a-Family Radiothon proved a huge help.
About 65 percent of families were adopted through the station's efforts.
