WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Emergency room physicians, along with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, have set new guidelines to help the public know when to go to the emergency room with H1N1 symptoms.

In a statement issued by the American College of Emergency Physicians, officials confirmed that the public is confused about when to seek help in the emergency room.

The guidelines lead off with the question, “do you have a fever or feel feverish and have a cough and/or sore throat?”

If the answer is no, then a trip to the emergency room is not necessary.

If the answer is yes, then the emergency room physicians issued a list of symptoms that indicate a trip to the emergency room is necessary.
