JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Transportation is transitioning its equipment to prepare for the snowy season.

When Nov. 1 arrives, crews change out road maintenance trucks and outfit them with plows.

"If we get ice and snow early this year, we will be ready," said Jim Carney, MoDOT state maintenance engineer. "We're stocked up on salt and our equipment is in top shape."

MoDOT spends more than $40 million on snow and ice removal. The department says last year it had nearly 3,000 employees who spent nearly 500,000 hours using the state's 1,650 snow-removal vehicles.

For information about bad weather travel information, MoDOT provides an informational map with current road conditions. Just go to http://www.modot.org.
