CENTERVIEW, Mo. -- "He raised an assault rifle and started firing," said deputy Jeff Parsons of the Johnson County, Missouri Sheriff's Department.
Parsons was chasing suspects from a Holden, Mo. bank robbery when they started shooting at him.
"They hit my windshield, tires and I turned to avoid the gunfire and ditched the car," said Parsons.
After Parsons wrecked, a Holden police officer continued the pursuit until bullets disabled his car too.
The shooting happened east of Holden on 58 highway.
Other people were driving by and trapped by the shooting, like Dan Atkinson's wife.
"She couldn't tell where the bulltets were coming. At least she's allright. " said Atkinson.
After escaping the officers, the suspects bailed out of the getaway car and set it on fire. Then they stole a nearby truck.
"They're dangerous and need to be caught," said Sheriff Chuck Heiss.
About 30 people were inside the bank at the time of the robbery.
The suspects were last seen in the stolen truck heading towards highway 13. It's a white Chevrolet extended cab flatbed truck bearing Missouri plates 32A-8DJ.
