OLATHE, Kan. – There could be a break in Monday's deadly hit and run crash on K-7 Highway.
Kansas Highway Patrol got a tip that led them to an unidentified business in Olathe. That's where troopers say they found the truck they were looking for. A trooper says the suspect was also found Monday night and is being questioned.
Officials say the suspect is in his mid-twenties, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. They believe he was driving a rust and white colored vehicle that looks like a dump truck.
Investigators say the victim, 84-year-old Rita F. Huscher of Olathe, was driving her minivan on southbound K-7 just north of 95th street. At 1:10 p.m. someone backed into her car. The minivan smashed into a bridge support before rolling and coming to rest in the median.
Huscher was ejected during the crash and killed. Investigators say she wasn't wearing a seat belt.
Friends and neighbors say Huscher was a painter and loved to teach art.
