KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The president of The Kansas City Power & Light District now says they did not cut power to a hip hop performance Saturday.

District president Jon Stephens said on Sunday that the popular entertainment district in downtown Kansas City cut the power during a performance by DJ Jazzy Jeff, but said Monday he “misspoke” and that district officials only asked the performer’s managers to turn down the volume.

“We have certain parameters of certain decibel limits and quality of sound,” Stephens said Sunday. “Unfortunately it was maxing out our equipment.”

Regardless of what exactly happened, Jazzy Jeff walked off the stage about 30 minutes into the performance, saying Sunday on Twitter that he was kicked off because the district did not like the hip hop music he was playing.
But Stephens says they knew what kind of music Jazzy Jeff played when they invited him to come.

“We’re hoping to have him back,” Stephens said Sunday. “We already have him booked in Louisville (at another Cordish Company location) and we’re excited about that.”

Stephens also pointed out that a similar incident happened during a rock concert that was playing too loud last year.
