OSAWATOMIE, Kan. – The driver of a pickup truck was killed early Thursday morning when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a river.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says 61-year-old David G. Evans, of Garnett, was driving northbound on US Highway 169 around 6 a.m. when he lost control, crossed into the southbound lane and entered the Marias des Cygnes River.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene shortly after, but did not pull Evans’ body from the river until just after 10 a.m.

The patrol online crash log indicates Evans was wearing a seatbelt and was the only person in his vehicle.
