KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Less fortunate metro-area residents received a helping hand Saturday afternoon in downtown Kansas City.
With support from a number of Kansas City-area multi-denominational congregations, Care of Poor People held its bi-annual “Survival Event.”
The event brought together Christians, Jews and Muslims in the Park Reserve Parking Garage at 31st and Baltimore to serve a hot meal.
But the effort didn’t end Saturday.
The group is encouraging other congregations to host a new and used winter clothing drive for hats, coats, blankets, gloves, long underwear, sweaters, long-sleeved T-shirts, shoes and boots are all needed, in addition to personal hygiene items.
During the last 19 years, with the help of Kansas City's religious community, COPP has helped thousands of Kansas City's poor and homeless survive winter and has saved countless lives in the process.
