City of Lee's Summit Wins Statewide Art Award

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - The City of Lee's Summit, Mo. has been selected by the Missouri Arts Council as the state's 2010 Creative Community.

The award is presented annually to a community that has made a profound and lasting contribution to the cultural and artisitic climate of the state.

Lee's Summit was recognized for its comprehensive arts plan, which was developed in 2007.

"The arts in Lee's Summit touch every sector of the community, which is a great example of many organizations working in harmony to create a creative community," says Lee's Summit Mayor Karen Messerli. "Lee's Summit's commitment to creativity is evident in the magnitude of involvement from various community players."

Lake Lotawana, Mo. artist Jim Leedy was also recognized by the Missouri Arts Council for his individual art.

The awards will be officially presented to the winners in a Feb. ceremony in Jefferson City.
