KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A city department helps homeowners repaint homes, but has run out of money for paint.
The city is only half way through the current fiscal year, which runs through next April.
Here is the notice sent out by the city:
Free Paint Program assisted 199 homeowners
After providing 199 eligible homeowners with free paint and supplies to refresh and reseal their homes, the City of Kansas City, Mo., Housing and Community Development Department is no longer accepting applications this year for the program.
All Free Paint Program funds have been exhausted.
“We wish we could accommodate every eligible applicant in the City year-round, but our resources are limited,” said Bob Jackson, manager of the Property Preservation Division of the Housing and Community Development Department.
The program gives eligible homeowners, who do the required work to properly prepare their homes to be painted, high-quality exterior paint at no cost.
Eligible applicants completed applications to receive paint, primer, caulking and other supplies related to the painting of their homes (the total cost of the paint supplies could not exceed $500).
Applicants must:
- Live in Kansas City, Mo.
- Own and live in the property to be painted
- Own only one property
- Meet the following household income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development:
One person $39,400
Two people $45,050
Three people $50,650
Four people $56,300
Five people $60,800
Six people $65,300
Seven people $69,800
Eight or more people $74,300.
Paint recipients had to make all necessary repairs and properly prepare their houses for painting prior to receiving their supplies. After an inspector determined a house was ready to be painted, vouchers were awarded to the homeowners that allowed them to choose in-store colors of Sherwin-Williams paint; no color matching was provided.
Residents should watch for future news on the next cycle of funding for the Free Paint Program.
