City Grant Helps Pay for Annual 4th of July Block Party

Last Update: 7/05 1:41 pm
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - An Overland Park community held its annual July Fourth block party.

For 10 years the Colony West neighborhood near 101st and Nall had a block party on Independence Day.

A grant provided by the city helps pay for the neighborly get-together.

City officials say the goal is to preserve strong neighborhoods.

"This neighborhood is really close because of events like this, everyone knows each other."

Police and city leaders believe if neighbors know one another -- they will give tips to police quicker if something should happen.
