RIVERSIDE, Mo. – Some residents could soon get a two year break from paying their monthly sewer bills.

Aldermen are considering passing an ordinance that will allow the city to pay the sewer bills for houses zoned as single-family residences including rental properties.

According to the Kansas City Star, the ordinance will also serve as a guideline for negotiating a new contract with Kansas City, which treats the city’s sewage.

The average Riverside homeowner pays $26.50 a month for a sewage bill.

The cost of the plan would be $155,000 a year. City leaders say the money would come from sales tax collections.
