Child Killed, 4 Others Injured in Shooting

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Police say someone shot and killed a young girl and injured four others in Kansas City, Kan.

The victim was identified Friday morning as 7-year-old Laraya Wilson.

Kansas City, Kansas Police responded to a shooting call at 12:08 Friday morning in the 2600 block of North 13th Street.

Upon arrival they found the five victims with gunshot wounds.

Paramedics transported four of the victims to the hospital. They are expected to recover.

Laraya died at the scene.

Bonnie Thomas says her son is dating a girl that lives in the home and was there last night. Now she can't find him and fears he may have been a victim of the shooting as well. Thomas says the victim that died is the 7-year-old sister of her son's girlfriend.

"She was sweet. What can you say about a child that was full of life?" Thomas says. "She was innocent."

One man on the scene says he heard the gunshots five blocks away at his home between 11 p.m. and midnight. He says he heard several shots fired. "A lot more than five, a lot more." 

Police say they don't have a suspect description at this time.

Detectives are encouraging anyone with information about the shooting to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474 -TIPS (8477).

This was KCK's second multiple shooting this week. On Monday, four people, including a 3-year-old girl, were killed in a shooting in the 5200 bl ock of Muncie Drive. A 37-year-old man was charged with their murders on Thursday.
