KANSAS CITY, Mo.--The Cars for Heroes program gifted six veterans with cars at the Harrah's casino Sunday afternoon.
John Marshall was among the recipients. Marshall served a total of 12 years in the military, first in the Air Force, then in the National Guard.
On October 11, 2006, Marshall was hit by an R.P.G rocket in Iraq. The rocket went through the vehicle, and both of his legs. Marshall constantly wears a leg brace, suffers from a traumatic brain injury, and a severe post traumatic stress disorder.
"Sometimes I have to go the VA hospital 4 to 5 times a week for therapy and treatment," said Marshall.
Marshall received a Ford Focus from the Cars for Heroes program.
"I can't believe that someone gave me a car. My current car is a gas guzzler and this will make it easier to get to my doctor appointments," said Marshall.
The Cars for Heroes program hopes to give away 50 donated cars this summer.
