KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Detectives are investigating a series of home invasions in western Kansas City, Kansas.  They arrested three men after their burglary attempt failed.

Police walked door to door approaching neighbors near North 47th Street and Cleveland Avenue.

“I’m just glad it hasn’t hit my house,” said a homeowner who did not want to be identified.

There is anxiety over what happened near homes there Thursday night.

“I’ve been here for about six or seven months and nothing like this has ever happened,” said Donna McLaurin, a homeowner in the area.

Around two o’clock, three men invaded a home in the 2400 block of North 47th Street.  There were two men and a woman inside the home at the time.

“Me and my friend were just sitting here thinking that could have been me or her,” McLaurin said.

Someone pulled a gun then opened fire. Only the suspects were hit.

“What we’re trying to figure out is by who, how many, and why,” said Officer Troy Rice of the KCK Police Department.

One neighbor said she saw four suspects flee the scene. All of them appeared to be teenagers, she said. At least two of them had ski masks, she added. Police found one of the wounded suspects lying on a deck. He was sent to the hospital. Two other suspects drove themselves to the same hospital. None of their injuries are life-threatening, according to police.

The four people victimized by the home invasion were not injured, police said

“That could have easily been somebody knocking on my door doing the same thing,” McLaurin said.

Police said this crime is not isolated.

“In this area, we have had a series of home invasions and robberies in current weeks, past weeks,” Officer Rice said. “So, one of the things detectives are trying to do right now is determine if this incident is isolated or if it’s in any way related to any of the other crimes we’ve had occur.”

Neighbors find some comfort knowing that police have at least three suspects in custody.

“I’m thankful,” McLaurin said. “So, I feel blessed. I feel blessed.”
