BROOKFIELD, Mo. - Town leaders in Brookfield, Mo., have a big idea to keep their small community from shrinking.

The Brookfield Area Growth partnership is presenting each graduating high school senior with a personalized mailbox and a message that they will always have a home in Brookfield.

The initiative is designed to catalyze rural community development.

Town leaders want to convince young adults that Brookfield is a wonderful place to live and that the young people have an important role in the community's future.

Brookfield is a manufacturing and agricultural community.

If the initiative works, graduating seniors who leave for college will return to Brookfield to live and work.

Other small towns are using Brookfield’s initiative for the same reasons.
