RAYTOWN, Mo. – The goal: to build a school for children in southern Sudan, in Africa. Members of a Raytown church group held a benefit pancake breakfast at Applebee’s Saturday to raise money for the missionary effort.

Members of the Brothers Organization for Relief, a 501c3 missionary group from Swope Parkway Church of Christ, donned aprons and served customers at the Applebee’s Restaurant at 9330 East 350 Highway.

Church members say the Sudanese children don’t have a school building and now go to classes outside under the trees. School must be halted during the rainy season from May through September.

The Brothers Organization for Relief has a goal of raising enough money to build the school and an all-purpose building by the summer of 2010. The church has been donating school supplies and other books to the people in southern Sudan for the past ten years.
