KANSAS CITY, Mo – Late-night violence and too many visits from police could threaten a night club’s liquor license.
Joshua’s Lounge, located near 71 Highway and Longview Road, is facing a 30-day suspension of its liquor license.
In the next 45 days, the owner of the bar will also have to get consent from a majority of neighboring property owners. If not, the license could be revoked, according to Gary Majors, the director of Kansas City’s Regulated Industries division.
Majors said Joshua’s was placed on probation back in December because of “excessive police calls.”
Then,
the night club was the scene of Kansas City’s first homicide on New Year’s Day of 2010. In that incident, a fight inside the bar spilled out into the parking lot. A 25-year-old woman was shot and later died at an area hospital.
The tougher regulations were implemented
last year to make it easier to revoke the licenses of problem locations. Majors said this is the first time the new ordinance has been used to discipline an establishment that has failed its probation period.
Management at Joshua’s could not be reached for comment on Monday.
