LEXINGTON, Mo. - The web of suspects in the alleged Mohler Family Sex ring has a new face. Darrel Mohler, 72, was arrested in Silver Springs, Florida, late Friday night.
He faces two counts of forcible rape against children younger than 14 years old. Prosecutors allege Darrel Mohler lured two female relatives inside an abandoned home where he abused them more than 20 years ago.
Thursday, his brother, Burrell Mohler, Sr. and Burrell's four sons were arraigned for allegedly gang raping and forcing girls to have sex with animals among other charges.
In an Associated Press story, Darrel said he has not seen his brother Burrell in years. Darrel also told the AP his brother's alleged crimes "struck me right in the gut."
"He said that this made him sick to his stomach," said Merrill Clark, a first cousin of Darrel Mohler. "He said that it's awful and all of that stuff. So, it's hard. It makes it really super hard to believe that he knew about this."
Mohler's cousin also said Darrell is a Navy man currently suffering from asbestos poisoning. Also, Darrel is in the process of a divorce. His cousin claims Darrell was living in Florida at the time of his alleged crimes.
Lafayette County's Sheriff gave no timetable for Darrel Mohler's arrival to the county jail.
