TOPEKA, Kan. - Many people in Kansas are now aware of the AMBER Alert program to help locate missing and abducted children. But what about adults that go missing?
Well now local media and law enforcement have such a program: the Silver Alert. It works like the AMBER alert but is used to locate missing people over age 65 who suffer from dementia or other conditions.
The program creates a voluntary process for coordinating how police work with media and others.
For police to issue the alert, they must determine if the missing person has a medical or mental condition that reduces the persons ability to make reasonable, sound decisions.
