OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Three people were taken Wednesday morning to area hospitals suffering from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning.
A relative visiting the home, in the 9500 block of W. 117th Street, alerted authorities around 8 a.m. to two women inside the house who were unresponsive.
Medical crews learned a third person was transported from the home earlier in the morning to an area hospital complaining of cardiac problems. It was only learned the first patient may be suffering from CO poisoning after the two women were taken to the hospital.
Overland Park Fire Department spokesman Jason Rhodes says the problem could have been avoided if the home had a working CO detector.
Rhodes urges everyone to have a functioning CO detector in their homes and to have their furnaces serviced and inspected annually.
Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless and potentially deadly gas, Rhodes says.
The condition of the three people taken to hospitals was not clear.
