KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A Saturday morning fire in the 2200 block of S. Mill Street sent two firefighters to area hospitals with injuries and caused more than $50,000 in damage.

Craig Duke, KCKFD spokesman said crews responded to the location around 2 a.m. Saturday morning to find a vacant residence fully engulfed in flames.

Duke said firefighters initially fought the fire from a defensive position, but two firefighters suffered minor injuries while at the scene.

One suffered a knee injury while the second suffered a shoulder injury. Both were treated at an area hospital and released.

The fire caused roughly $1,000 in damage to two adjacent structures and caused a total loss to the unoccupied home.

Investigators believe the fire was unintentional.
