GARDEN CITY, Kan.. – Officials in Garden City say an employee’s use of the courthouse server for an anti-Obama e-mail violates policy.
“Our policy states that those services are not for personal use,” said Finney County Administrator Peter Olson. “The matter was addressed in accordance with the Finney County personnel policy.”
Olson wouldn’t provide specifics, but says county policy calls for disciplinary action when an employee uses e-mail for political messages.
An e-mail sent in September from the official address of the county’s commercial appraiser, Mary Hargett linked Obama to the anti-Christ.
The e-mail has since been forwarded multiple times all over the country.
Government workers in Denver and South Carolina have been disciplined for forwarding the message.
When contacted by NBC Action News Monday, Hargett said she didn’t recall writing the e-mail, but acknowledged it sounded familiar.
“Isn’t everyone bashing,” Hargett said. “So, what’s the problem?”
Hargett hung up the phone before answering additional questions.
