KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Police are investigating a shooting that left a teenager injured Monday afternoon.

The shooting happened shortly after 3 p.m. in the 9700 block of Hillcrest.

Police say a 15-year-old boy had just gotten off a school bus when he was shot in the leg. The teen told police he was walking alone when a car pulled up, and someone inside started shooting. The boy told detectives he did not know why someone would shoot him.

The injuries are not life-threatening, but he did lose a lot of blood.

A friend saw the teen limping down the street with the gunshot wound, helped him inside her home, and then called police.

On Monday night, a woman who lives in the neighborhood saw flashing lights and crime scene tape surrounding her neighbor's front yard. Her thoughts immediately turned to the safety of her sixth-grade daughter.

"They get off the bus, arguments carry over, and people start shooting. It's just crazy," the woman said. "It makes me worried for my daughter."

Hickman Mills School District Public Information Coordinator John Baccala says the teenager is a student at Hickman Mills High School.

Police do not have any suspects in custody.

If you have any information regarding the incident, you are asked to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
