KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Storms in counties north of Kansas City brought severe thunderstorms and a tornado warning Wednesday afternoon. More severe weather moved through east of Kansas City on Wednesday evening.
Storms including heavy rain, lightning and thunder moved through Doniphan, Atchison and Buchanan counties between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday. Severe storms moved through Carroll County, Missouri just before 7 p.m.
Those same storms pushed east-southeast and gained strength as they arrived in Carroll County, Missouri just before 7 p.m.
Carroll County Emergency Manager Harry Barnett says most of the damage occurred in and around Norborne, Mo. Trees and power lines were knocked down and the town was without electricity. Many buildings in the area were damaged.
The Norborne fire station has been opened as an emergency shelter for area residents. A local senior center was evacuated just before 10 p.m. due to the lack of electricity.
No injuries were reported.
