Several Killed in Series of Weekend Wrecks

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Police agencies throughout the area spent the weekend investigating a series of deadly car crashes.

The first of two deadly accidents Sunday happened early in the morning.

Police were called to the area of Mo. 350 Hwy. and Blueridge Boulevard where they discovered that a car had hit the south end of the overpass which crosses Mo. 350 Highway.

Officers arriving on the scene discovered a female passenger identified as Michaella M. Ard, 44 of Kansas City, Mo., had been killed. The driver, a 51 year old Kansas City man, was transported to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition, and another male passenger 44, of Kansas City was transported and reported to be in serious condition.


Then at 8:20 Sunday morning a man from Holt, Mo., was killed in a roll-over accident on Missouri Highway 116, just east of Lathrop. The Highway Patrol said Dane W. Nelson, 22, was thrown from his car then pinned beneath it when the car rolled. Nelson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Saturday, two other people were killed in separate crashes.

Police say Jason Teaney, 21, died after losing control of his car at the intersection of E. 43rd Street and Sterling Ave. in Kansas City and hit two wooden utility poles around 1 a.m.

The second took place just after noon Saturday in rural Leavenworth County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports Leodis Byers, 74, was killed when he lost control of his car as he was driving west on U.S. 24 Highway at 174th Street, near Basehor.
